Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr Skipped Watching The Inauguration To Study Game Film…Then Lost By 40 Points

Steve Kerr Golden State Warriors

Just imagine how bad it would have been if he HAD watched. President Donald Trump was officially sworn into office as the 47th President of the United States yesterday in a historic ceremony that marked on the second time in history that a president has served two non-consecutive terms. And there were plenty of people on hand for the celebration, including country stars like Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean and Billy Ray Cyrus (yikes), tech moguls like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos, and even rapper Nelly was there to perform at Trump's inaugural ball last night. But apparently the one person in the country who didn't pay attention to the festivities was Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. Kerr has been an outspoken critic of Trump, appearing in an ad back in 2020 endorsing Joe Biden and speaking at the Democratic National Convention last year to endorse Kamala Harris and encourage voters to reject Trump once and for all: “That night, we can — in the words of the great Steph Curry — we can tell Donald Trump, ‘night night.’” https://twitter.com/cjzer0/status/1825706171350597844 So yeah, you can imagine that yesterday probably wasn't a great day for him. And when asked last night whether he tuned into the inauguration, Kerr confirmed that he instead chose to study game film instead, ahead of the team's matchup against the Boston Celtics: "I didn't watch the inauguration. I chose to watch Celtics tape instead." And that would be fine if he decided to pour his frustration into his job so that his team would perform better. But that's not exactly what happened. The Warriors suffered a 40 point loss last night after the inauguration, losing to the Celtics 125-85 in what no doubt was just salt in the wound of a miserable day for Steve Kerr. Should have just tuned into MSNBC if you were going to lose by 40 anyway. https://twitter.com/DaltonJ_Johnson/status/1881436285174444541 Of course while Steve Kerr had a rough day yesterday, it wasn't all smooth sailing for those at Trump's inauguration either. Carrie Underwood's performance of "America the Beautiful" during the swearing in ceremony was disrupted by technical issues, but she managed to pull it off and deliver a flawless acapella performance that was the highlight of the event (other than getting Trump back in office, of course). And the technical issues continued into the evening when Billy Ray Cyrus performed at the Liberty Ball in what turned out to be a trainwreck of a performance. Billy Ray had problems with his guitar and microphone, and lip synched through part of his performance, but when he WAS actually performing live it probably made quite a few people wish that he had continued to lip synch. https://twitter.com/ZachMoushon/status/1881528691479716070 The disastrous performance ended with the "Achy Breaky Heart" singer wandering around stage in the dark as his song played in the background before seemingly being cut off and escorted off the stage. So at least Kerr can rest easy knowing he wasn't the only one who had a rough day yesterday...but unlike the others, he's probably not looking forward to the next four years either.
