![U.S. Marshall K-9 “Rocky” Hailed As A Hero After Being Wounded Tracking Down Wanted Killer In Texas]()
![dog attacked]()
This dog named Rocky isn't just a "good boy," he's a hero.
Wednesday evening, law enforcement officers were frantically searching for a wanted man by the name of Sean Christopher Davis at a southwest Houston, Texas strip mall. The suspect had shot and killed Brazoria County Sheriff's Office Deputy Jesus Vargas earlier in the day as the officer was serving a warrant.
The police tracked the suspect down to the shopping center location, but were still unsure of the fleeing man's whereabouts. They brought in their U.S. Marshall K-9 named "Rocky" in an attempt to locate the suspect, who was believed to be hiding in the area. Rocky did his job, leading the officers to a dumpster and alerting them that someone was hiding inside.
That's when a gun fight broke out, as Sean Christopher Davis opened fire after his cover was blown. The suspect fired shots at officers that were surrounding the dumpster, and even shot at the K-9 unit that had tracked him down. Rocky was hit with bullets in the neck and the snout, and had to be life flighted to a veterinary hospital. Sean Christopher Davis was killed in the very dumpster he had hid in as police returned fire.
Chief T. Michael O'Connor of the U.S. Marshals had this to say about the heroic efforts of the K-9 unit named Rocky:
"The amazing aspect here that people have to understand, the K-9 saved lives. When the K-9 went in there, (the suspect) decided to (try to) take the dog out."

While the gun fight was still happening, select members of law enforcement picked up Rocky and relocated him to another location. Harrowing video was captured of the officers carrying the wounded K-9 - who had been shot twice - to a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter.
The U.S. Marshals cleared an area for the transport chopper to land, and did their best to stabilize Rocky before he was lifted off and away to a nearby veterinarian hospital, as you'll see in this video below:

The latest reports state that Rocky is in stable condition and is expected to recover and survive. Sources say that the K-9 was shot twice, so it's incredibly lucky to have avoided being wounded more severely. But at the end of the day, the dog was just doing the job that it was trained to do, and successfully tracked down the man who had killed a Deputy Jesus Vargas hours earlier.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott got wind of the story and took to social media to hail the wounded K-9 as a hero:
"Rocky is one of our K-9 heroes. He was shot in the line of duty. Keep Rocky in your prayers."

It's firmly believed that Rocky saved many lives with his actions, including the life of his handler. The K-9 that is a member of the U.S. Marshal's Special Operations Group proves that not all heroes wear capes. Some wear a collar and a leash, and stop at nothing to selflessly protect innocent people.
A "Good Boy" indeed.
