Former Princeton Football Player Tiger Bech Died Saving Someone Else’s Life In New Orleans Terrorist Attack

Tiger Bech

Stories continue to unfold around the tragic New Year's Day terroristic attack in New Orleans. On the morning of January 1, around 3 A.M. – mere hours after many rang in the new year on Bourbon Street – tragedy struck. A terrorist drove a truck into a crowd of people that were still celebrating the holiday, killing 14 and injuring dozens of others. After the suspect crashed into what appeared to be a construction lift, he got out of the truck and engaged with New Orleans police that were stationed there in anticipation of the New Year’s celebration. Two officers suffered gunshot wounds before the terror suspect was killed by the police. The suspect was quickly identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, and it was later confirmed that he was flying an ISIS flag on the back of his rented truck. The senseless act of violence rattled the New Orleans area, and America as whole. Information about the victims slowly started to come out in the days after the attack, and we learned that one person who lost their life was a 27-year-old former Ivy League football player by the name of Martin "Tiger" Bech. The Princeton University grad grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana, and when it came time to go to college, the punt returner and wide receiver took himself and his athletic talents to Princeton, New Jersey. He earned All-Ivy-League honors while he was there. https://twitter.com/PrincetonFTBL/status/1874602572889325821 Tiger's younger brother, Jack, is currently playing at TCU as a wide receiver. He's been very outspoken since his Tiger Bech's death, doing interviews and posting on social media to keep the internet updated on the latest news in regards to the loss of his brother. It's through those outlets that we know that the brother's parents were able to be by Tiger's side as he passed away in the hospital, and that Jack was able to FaceTime his brother before he was taken off life support. The TCU wide receiver also shared a text message that he received yesterday that provides some insight into his brother's final moments. A message that was presumably sent to Jack by one of the friends that Tiger had been hanging out with during New Year's revealed that the former Princeton football player died saving another person's life. As you you'll be able to see below, the friend (which Jack redacted the name of) apparently got a call from the FBI, and they informed the friend that after reviewing surveillance footage of the attack, it appears that Tiger laid out his life to save someone else: "FBI just called. They said they have video surveillance of the girls that we were talking with, Tiger pushing the girl out of the way to save her life. He's a true American hero. Chills." https://twitter.com/jackbech7/status/1877124097638805869?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1877124097638805869%7Ctwgr%5E57f199e04be2c542f32b0be8871115e8c64d2f65%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fbrobible.com%2Fsports%2Farticle%2Ftiger-bech-died-saving-womans-new-orleans-terror-attack%2F Truly an American hero. It's such a sad, devastating story, but hopefully the Bech family can find some comfort in knowing that their son was heroic in his final moments. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the victims of the New Orleans New Year's Day attack.
