![Mama Longhorn Charges Missouri Rancher Trying To Tag Her Calf]()
![Longhorn mama]()
Don't mess with a mama and her babies.
It's no secret that moms are very protective of their newborns, regardless of the species. That protectiveness means that they will plow down anyone or anything that comes near their offspring.
Recently, a rancher went viral after sharing a video of his herd of mother cows
fighting off a coyote to protect their young. The cow went full WWE on this poor coyote, stomping all over it. When the coyote tried to fight back, the animal was tossed through the air like a rag doll. The footage highlighted how ruthless nature can be and the power that comes with a prey animal's fight-or-flight instinct.
A Missouri Longhorn breeder highlighted that this fight or flight instinct isn't just towards predators but even toward the hands who feed them. Bearded Horns Ranch, located in Wheatland, MO, highlighted their mother's fiercely protecting their young.
One of the first-generation ranch owners shared a video, which is taking off on social media, of one of their mothers charging at him to protect her offspring. The rancher was attempting to tag the newborn bull calf, but the mom was not having anyone or anything come near her baby.
The rancher gets low to show that he's not a threat as the mother seemingly pushes the calf toward him in the field. However, as she sees the rancher put his hand out to try and lure the calf closer to him, she decides that he's bad news and puts her head down, charging him. The longhorn is ready to hook him, but the rancher gets away in the nick of time.
On the rancher's second attempt, the mother does not even give the rancher a chance to prove that he is not a predator. She runs toward the man before her calf can get close to him. This viral video shows the reality of ranching. Hit TV shows like
Yellowstone have romanticized this way of life, but the reality is being run at by bulls and trying to escape by the skin of your teeth.
Hopefully, this rancher will eventually be able to separate this mom from her baby so they can adequately tag him as part of their herd.
