“We’re Done Talking” – Kevin Costner Shuts Down “Reporter” On Rumored Luke Grimes Feud

Luke Grimes and Kevin Costner

Kevin Costner has finally spoken about the finale of Yellowstone. Well, sort of... TV's most popular show (at least at one time) finally wrapped up after a long hiatus between parts 1 and 2 of season five. There were many reasons for the delay, including the writers and actors strike, but the main issue that kept delaying the show's ending was Kevin Costner's dispute with show creator Taylor Sheridan. From scheduling to the storyline to a "moral death clause" (whatever that is), it seemed that Yellowstone's patriarch and the man who thought him into existence didn't agree on much, which eventually led to Costner's character (John Dutton) being written out of the show's ending in a way that had some fans up in arms, though others believed the storyline was better without him. The show's finale was certainly interesting and while some claimed it to be worse than Game Of Thrones ending, I have to say that I really didn't hate it. Sure, it would have been great for John Dutton to still be a part of the show, especially since Costner will now forever be tied to Yellowstone, but it was a foreseeable ending (fans called it for awhile) and really put a nice bow on the entire story arc. Sure, I could sit here and nit pick this or that scene, but all in all I truly believe it was a fine ending and doesn't deserve the hate it's received. Still, people were wondering what Kevin Costner thought of Yellowstone's final chapter and we finally got a little bit of insight into where he's at with it all, including on his rumored feud with Luke Grimes, who played John Dutton's son, Kayce.

Kevin Costner On The Yellowstone Finale

A reporter (or at least a guy with his phone) happened to run into Kevin Costner while he was walking the icy streets of Aspen, Colorado the other day and recorded his interaction, which was originally posted by the Daily Mail. Admittedly, I'm not a fan of this semi-ambush style journalism, clearly Kevin isn't either, but his comments are worth reading, but perhaps not worth looking into. The reporter asked Costner for his thoughts on the Yellowstone finale and he provided a very brief answer while chuckling, meaning he probably wasn't taking it too seriously: "I'm not even thinking about that. I don't think I've given it any thoughts. We'll just let it go, thank you man." Essentially a "no comment" from John Dutton. Is it true that Costner actually has zero thoughts on how an enormously successful TV show that he was a major part of wrapped up without him? Probably not, but it's clear he just wanted to get where he was going while being respectful to the guy asking questions. The reporter than followed up by asking if he'd talked with Luke Grimes, who recently said that he hasn't spoke to Kevin since he left the show.

Luke Grimes Feud?

Two weeks ago, Esquire posted an interview with Luke Grimes which contained some comments about filming the final part of Yellowstone that caught people's attention: "Hopefully everyone can see that it was time. To be really honest, there was a part of Kevin being gone that meant some of the conflict was gone. Obviously, it didn’t make it super fun to be around. Not pointing any fingers, but it was actually the easiest season we’ve filmed." Apparently, Costner's problems with Taylor Sheridan, and the uneasiness of that situation, spilled over to the rest of the cast and made for a tense set. Grimes then spoke with Men's Health, where he said he hadn't spoken to Costner since the final episode ran: "No, I haven’t talked to him since. It’s not a case of any hard feelings or anything; it’s just, he’s Kevin Costner. [Laughs] He’s a big deal. I do have his phone number—I just don’t feel like it’s my place to reach out. He can reach out to me if he wants to. None of us saw it coming the way it did, and obviously there was news about possible blowups behind the scenes or whatever. But just like in life, man, these things happen, they happen fast, and they’re not predictable. I lost my father a few years ago. It happened fast, and it was not the way that you would think that that would happen. In life, these things happen and then people have to start making decisions. And in our little ‘Yellowstone’ world, that helped ramp the show up into a boil.” It certainly doesn't seem like Grimes has any negative feelings towards Costner but you certainly wouldn't blame Costner if he wasn't exactly pleased by Grimes comments; they certainly seem to imply that there were high tensions and many questions about the role Kevin would continue to play in the series that affected everyone. When the man asked Costner if he'd talked to Grimes, he replied: "No, we're done talking." He then followed that up by telling the reporter that he was a good guy and that he didn't want him to slip on the ice, and he was laughing while he said the above line, but it's certainly interesting that those were the words he chose when asked about Grimes. We're done talking? Again, I'm reading between the lines here but it sure smells like trouble afoot. Maybe he's just unhappy about him spilling the beans on things Kevin believes should stay on set. Maybe they did have a falling out and he's just trying to move past it and get to the next phase of his life. Maybe he just saw him so often while making Yellowstone that he just needs a little bit of a break, and anyone who's ever worked in an office can certainly relate to not hating a co-worker but needing a break from them... However, it's also very possible, dare I say, extremely likely, that Kevin's "no, we're done talking" was directed to the guy bothering him while he's trying to enjoy himself in Aspen, and had nothing to do with his relationship with Luke Grimes. He hasn't spilled much of ANYTHING regarding the drama between him and Taylor, and has always tried to keep things behind closed doors, even when he was painted as the unreasonable one by the media... no reason to suspect that he would change now, especially about Luke Grimes. You know this dude is just fishing for a tasty quote, and he sort of got one, but to me, it sounds like Kevin was done talking to HIM, not Luke Grimes. But who knows... maybe Costner likes Yellowstone branded baked beans and Grimes doesn't... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NpRpeRKwHo
