![“He Can Reach Out To Me If He Wants To” – Luke Grimes Says He Hasn’t Talked To Kevin Costner Since He Left ‘Yellowstone’]()

Not exactly besties.
Of course, the fan-favorite series
Yellowstone came to an end this past Sunday, and the second half of Season 5 has gone on without the shows star patriarch, Kevin Costner, who plays John Dutton.
It was definitely strange without him, because he was such a big part of the show and so central to the story, but there were rumors for months that he and
Yellowstone creator and writer Taylor Sheridan had differences they couldn't move past, thus the show went on without Costner.
Luke Grimes, who plays fan-favorite son Kayce Dutton, sat down for an interview with
Men's Health, following the big finale, where he was asked if he's stayed in touch with his onscreen dad, who also happens to be one of Hollywood's biggest names.
Grimes says he hasn't "talked to him since" he left the show, but there are no hard feelings or anything like that... he's just kind of a big deal, and Grimes says he just doesn't feel like it's his place to start contacting Costner, who's clearly a very busy man:
"No, I haven’t talked to him since. It’s not a case of any hard feelings or anything; it’s just, he’s Kevin Costner. [Laughs] He’s a big deal. I do have his phone number—I just don’t feel like it’s my place to reach out.
He can reach out to me if he wants to. None of us saw it coming the way it did, and obviously there was news about possible blowups behind the scenes or whatever. But just like in life, man, these things happen, they happen fast, and they’re not predictable. I lost my father a few years ago.
It happened fast, and it was not the way that you would think that that would happen. In life, these things happen and then people have to start making decisions. And in our little 'Yellowstone' world, that helped ramp the show up into a boil."
I mean, it's not exactly that weird they haven't talked, because while they were father and son on the show, at the end of the day, they're just co-workers, and I'm sure there's still mutual respect for their acting and time years they spent working on such a big show together.
Though, if I had Kevin Costner's phone number, I would 100% be reaching out, but I digress...
Those are not the only comments Grimes has shared about the departure of Coster, previously saying that this season was
a lot easier to film because the "conflict was gone":
“Hopefully everyone can see that it was time. To be really honest, there was a part of Kevin being gone that meant some of the conflict was gone. Obviously, it didn’t make it super fun to be around. Not pointing any fingers, but it was actually the easiest season we’ve filmed.”
Obviously, I think it would've been ideal if everyone could've resolved their issues (looking at you, Sheridan and Costner), so the show could've really ended in the proper way, but they made it work, and the last episode at least was pretty good.
With Costner gone and the original
Yellowstone officially over, Sheridan and many of the other cast members are ready to move on, with Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton) and Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler)
already been confirmed.
It's unclear if Luke Grimes and his on-screen wife Kelsey Asbille, who plays Monica Dutton, will be part of that, but she previously said
she would love to should the opportunity arise, and it seems like there's more to come for Kayce and his family, so stay tuned.
