Prayers up for the GOAT.
Fans have been concerned about NFL legend Randy Moss since ESPN announced that
Randy Moss the retired wide receiver and host of
Sunday NFL Countdown would be
taking some time off to deal with some personal health issues:
“Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss will step away from Sunday NFL Countdown for an extended time to focus on a personal health challenge. He briefly addressed the matter at the start of the show on Dec. 1.
For nearly a decade, Randy has been an invaluable member of the team, consistently elevating Countdown with his insight and passion. He has ESPN’s full support, and we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.”

The announcement came after fans had expressed concerns for Randy after his eyes appeared yellow during a recent show, appearing to be jaundice and leading many to believe that something may be wrong with his liver or pancreas:

After fans expressed their concern, Randy took to Instagram live to revealed that he's been "battling something internal" and asked for prayers, while also urging men in particular to stay on top of their health:
"All you men, man, you do your checkups, get your bloodwork done, and we'll work through it, alright?"
Earlier this week, Larry Fitzgerald Sr., father of former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, took to social media to claim that Moss was suffering from liver cancer - something that Randy's son Thaddeus Moss quickly claimed was untrue and blasted Fitzgerald for announcing while Moss had chosen to remain private.
But now, it seems that Randy is ready to speak for himself.
The legendary wide receiver took to Instagram this afternoon to confirm that he had in fact been diagnosed with cancer, revealing that he had recently undergone a procedure to have a stent put in his liver because the waste wasn't draining correctly. Doctors then found cancer in his bowel duct, "right between the pancreas and the liver."
Randy underwent surgery to remove the cancer, and spent six days in the hospital. He will now undergo chemotherapy and radiation, but he says that he's doing well thanks to the prayers from all of his fans and supporters:
"I didn't think I would ever be in a position like this, as healthy as I thought I was. But things took a turn for the worst, I asked for my prayer warriors, I asked for my family to be able to surround me and put their hands on me through this trying time. And you best believe your boy came through."
Randy admits that he's still got a tough road ahead, and he was walking with a cane on his video, but he seems to be in good spirits and referred to himself as a "cancer survivor," so it sounds like he's optimistic about his prognosis.
He also launched a line of "Team Moss" merchandise with the proceeds going to support cancer, while urging everyone not to be "macho" and stay on top of their health.
It's good to see that Randy seems to be recovering well, and he seems excited to get back to work at some point once his battle is over:
"My goal is to get back on that television with my team."
You love to see it.
Randy Moss is obviously in the conversation for greatest wide receiver of all time. During his college career at Marshall University, the West Virginia native led the Thundering Herd to an undefeated season during his first year, and a 25-3 record over two years in Huntington.
Moss scored at least one touchdown in all 28 of his college games and was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 1997 before declaring for the NFL Draft, being taken in the first round by the Minnesota Vikings.
During his 14-year career in the NFL that included stints with not only the Vikings but also the New England Patriots, the then-Oakland Raiders, the Tennessee Titans and the San Francisco 49ers, Moss set the NFL record for the most touchdown receptions in a season and retired with the highest career yards per catch average of any player in the NFL.
He was also selected for the Pro Bowl six times during his NFL career, is second all time in touchdown receptions and fourth all time in receiving yards, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame back in 2018.
Simply put, he’s one of the greatest to ever do it. If there's anybody who can "Moss" cancer, it's the legend himself.
