Yellowstone Fans Are Begging For A Josh Lucas Prequel Series After News Of Upcoming Spinoff

Hey Taylor Sheridan... fans would like a word. With all of Yellowstone fandom starring down the barrel of the Series Finale this week, news broke that the story wasn't exactly over. Of course, the saga was never going to be over with the amount prequels and spinoffs in the works, but Deadline revealed yesterday that Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly will reprise their roles in an upcoming spinoff series that will likely feature more of the original cast. Fans offered pretty mixed reactions, with some being grateful that the characters will get new life, and others just wishing Taylor Sheridan would let it die. Some fans have been out since the exit of Kevin Costner, and some are over Taylor Sheridan inserting himself into so much of the final season, but either way, you can't make everybody happy... it's the nature of the beast. But by my math, that means Yellowstone as we know it will come to an end, another season of 1923 in coming in February, another prequel with the working title of 1944 has been green-lit, another modern-day Yellowstone spinoff, The Madison, is set to premiere next year, and then we have this new one... which will reportedly be the first spinoff to actually use Yellowstone in the name. But that being said, what fans really want to see is another prequel series about a young John Dutton, starring Josh Lucas. I've always been a fan of Josh Lucas, but his appearance on Yellowstone has really always been kind of an afterthought. He appeared in a few flashback scenes here and there, never really more than a minute or two, but in the early part of Season 5, fans got much more significant screen time for Lucas, who plays a young John Dutton. We've had 1883 starring Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Sam Elliott. 1923 stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. And Taylor Sheridan has said that he wants to continue the story with separate spinoffs that take place in both the'40s and the 1960s. We've heard about another spinoff potentially starring Matthew McConaughey, there has been rumors about a 6666's Ranch spinoff, which Sheridan now owns. So is another prequel in the mix? Starring the mustached Josh Lucas as a young Livestock Comish, John Dutton? Maybe in the mid-'80s or early '90s? Maybe bring back Gretchen Mol as a young Evelyn Dutton? Dive into the adoption of Jamie Dutton? Figure out how John became such a relentless steward of their Montana land? Forrie J. Smith's son, can play a young Lloyd (they look identical). The possibilities are endless and honestly, it sounds A LOT better than a modern day spinoff about Rip and Beth Dutton. Taylor Sheridan Reveals '40s & '60s-Era Prequels

We have a lot to look forward to with the 2nd season of 1923, as it'll focus on the trials and tribulations of the Dutton family through the end of Prohibition, the beginning of the Great Depression, and the emergence of the flu, all with famed actors Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren leading the charge as Jacob and Cara Dutton. However, perhaps the most intriguing part of the news, is that Taylor Sheridan is lobbying for two more spinoff series, one focusing on the Dutton family in the 1940s, and the other, the 1960s. I don't think anybody was expecting this one, especially considering the massive workload Sheridan has for the near future, in the Yellowstone universe, and the other shows he has in the works like Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone, Landman, Lioness, and the next season of The Mayor of Kingstown. Nevertheless, it appears that the 1940s spinoff will more than likely focus on the Dutton family during World War II, and the 1960s spinoff will put emphasis on the family during the Vietnam War. The Duttons may have to fight off some hippies along the way as well. Not to mention, this will ultimately lead up to the birth and/or childhood of John Dutton III (Kevin Costner), the John Dutton we all know and love on Yellowstone today.
