The "Trump dance" celebration has been sweeping both the NFL and college football after former President Donald Trump's win in the 2024 election.
The 78-year old Trump has become well-known for his signature dance move, which he usually performs to the tune of "YMCA" by the Village People at the end of his rallies.

The dance has caught fire among his supporters, who were posting their own videos of themselves doing the Trump dance all over social media after his win over Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this month. But now it's starting to take over sports too.
UFC champ Jon Jones did the Trump dance - in front of the President himself, no less - after his win at UFC 309 before presenting his championship belt to Trump.

And across both the NFL and college football, players have begun doing the Trump dance in celebration after scoring a touchdown.
Nick Bosa kicked things off just a day after getting fined for wearing one of Trump's signature "Make America Great Again" hats while crashing a postgame interview:

And since his win, several other players from various teams have joined in:

Of course his supporters are loving it, and the President himself has even posted some of the celebrations to his social media:

But after Bosa was fined for his MAGA hat, naturally people were wondering whether the NFL would once again step in and put an end to any expression of support for Trump.
The league has cracked down on what it deems "excessive" celebrations recently, living up to their well-deserved nickname of the "No Fun League" and throwing flags for celebrations that apparently show players having TOO much fun. But the NFL has clarified that they have no problem with the Trump dance celebrations, and have no plans on cracking down on them.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed to
Front Office Sports that the dance doesn't violate any league policies - and that the networks could choose to show them or not:
“There’s no issue with a celebratory dance such as what took place yesterday or the previous week with the 49ers on November 10. It’s up to the networks to cover them as they see fit.”
That last part of the statement, though, has already been a source of controversy.
On Sunday, Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers hit the Trump dance celebration after scoring a touchdown against the Miami Dolphins, a moment that was clearly shown during the live broadcast and even reposted by the team themselves.

But when the NFL on CBS reposted the video of the score, they edited out the celebratory dance and cut straight to the next shot in the original broadcast:

Of course it will be interesting to see how the networks handle it, because you know there will be plenty of controversy if folks think they're intentionally cutting away or not showing celebrations out of fear of accidentally broadcasting a player doing the "Trump dance."
But as far as the NFL is concerned, it seems players are free to YMCA.
