Kelly Reilly is opening up about how she got her American accent for her role as Beth Dutton on Yellowstone. The ball-busting character Reilly plays is quite the opposite of the actress' soft-spoken nature, and her accent is a complete 180 from her natural Chessington, United Kingdom accent. The 47-year-old is no stranger to creating an American accent from her other roles, but on a recent sit-down with Drew Barrymore, she opened up that his role took a little more preparation when it came to getting the dialect right. Drew tells Reilly that she would never have guessed she had an accent after watching her on the hit Western show. "Well, that's thanks to my dialect coach because she's amazing, Jessica Drake. We were really going to for Montana accent, but she's (Beth Dutton) educated; she's from a very, very wealthy ranching family. I wasn't going to go like, 'Howdy, ma'am.' It wasn't that for me. But I certainly wanted to get that Montana dialect correct. So, I worked with Jessica. I'd work with her on flight and detective and all these other American accents I'd done. But for Beth, it was more about the voice because she smokes a little bit, she drinks a lot of bourbon. She comes from here (points to her stomach)." Barrymore agrees with Reilly that Beth's voice is hard to get because her lifestyle has a grittiness that goes beyond a dialect. Beth speaks with an accent formed from her unique life. Reilly then hilariously tells Drew Barrymore that she drew inspiration from another cast member and how he leaned into getting the ranching accent right. Kevin Costner, AKA John Dutton. "I kind of listened to Kevin a lot because he really deepened his voice for John Dutton, so I just stole it. I just copied him." Drew Barrymore then laughs, noting that Costner's vocals sound like Batman. Beth Dutton's character is much more complex than just her vocals. It is a beat of its own. Reilly, though, loves the character that Taylor Sheridan created and has enjoyed every aspect of the role throughout the show's five seasons. "I love her; I understand her. Getting in the skin of this primal woman is a lot of fun. She's invigorating, but she's also exhausting."  While Beth is a character that sometimes makes questionable choices, the beast that is John Dutton's only daughter has captured the hearts of fans. Her tough exterior is countered by her soft, loving side for Rip, and she fiercely defends the ones she loves. https://www.instagram.com/p/DCUonmwSOXV/ We've seen Beth grow over the seasons as her ball-busting mentality has grown in the effort to take Jamie down, and her loving side has also grown as she and Rip legitimized their relationship and as they "adopted" Carter in season four. Taylor Sheridan and Kelly Reilly created a masterpiece of a character with Beth Dutton, and Reilly does an outstanding job of embodying her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hcd5ErPfcwQ
