Say what you will about the Buffalo Bills finding every conceivable way not to win a Super Bowl despite being close on many occasions. They're running the AFC East in the post-Tom Brady era, and Bills Mafia sure knows how to have a hell of a good time.
Do I think there's some self-hatred involved for a fan base that prides itself most on jumping through on-fire tables during tailgate parties? Probably, but Buffalo fans are also by and large good folks who are known to donate to charitable causes even for players on opposing teams.
Three-time NFL Defensive Player of the year, known Luke Combs fan, and current CBS analyst JJ Watt fits in with the Bills' wholesome ethos. Don't get me wrong, Buffalo is a vicious, physical team on the gridiron, with that tone set by superstar quarterback Josh Allen. I just feel like those of us football purists who wanted better for Watt's career overall should acknowledge how much of a no-brainer fit Watt would've been in a Bills uniform.
While we'll never know if a prospective Watt acquisition back when he hit free agency in 2021 could've gotten Buffalo over the hump for a Lombardi Trophy, at least there's this: JJ shotgunning with fans amid a classic Bills tailgate scene before their huge game against the Chiefs on Sunday.

A man of the people indeed. Impeccable form here by Watt. How clean was that shotgun? The man is wearing a sharp, fancy suit and didn't spill a drop of booze from the little opening he's carved in the can. He drains that thing in a matter of seconds, hands it back to the fans, and goes on about his day.
But wait — there's more! Another fella who was smartly dressed in stars and stripes overalls got to hang with Watt a while, and we got the inside scoop as to what unfolded.

Absolute hilarity and chaos. Would expect nothing else out of Buffalo on an NFL Sunday. Watt acquitted himself at this tailgate as a pro's pro, just like he did as a player.
Seriously though, it bums me out a bit to think about how Watt spent most of his playing days in Houston, prior to the Texans really getting their culture right in this new current era under head coach DeMeco Ryans and QB CJ Stroud.
Then, rather than signing with the hometown Packers, or the perpetually-contending Bills, Watt went out to the desert to join the Cardinals for a couple seasons. That stint in Arizona preceded Kyler Murray truly coming into his own, and what looks like a rapidly improving football operation. Another tough break.
Oh well. I think Watt's greatness is universally acknowledged and undeniable. If anything, the lack of team-related accolades or deep playoff runs only makes Watt's Hall of Fame career all the more impressive. When you get someone with Watt's burning passion for football who'll do anything to maximize his considerable talents, that's how you wind up with a bust in Canton. He's bound to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer in the class of 2028 alongside Brady.
