America, meet Senator Babydog.
If you're from West Virginia, you're no doubt already familiar with Babydog, the English bulldog owned by Governor Jim Justice.
Babydog has served as an unofficial mascot for the state over the past few years, appearing at Justice's side during press conferences, public appearances, and even during the State of the State address when he showed off Babydog's asshole in a message to Bette Midler.

(For some context, the moment came after Midler had fired off a tweet criticizing WV Senator Joe Manchin in which she called West Virginians "poor, illiterate and strung out." She later apologized, but not before Justice told her to kiss his dog's ass).
That's West Virginia for you.
But now the rest of the country is about to meet Babydog too.
Of course folks were first introduced to the dog during the Republican National Convention, when Justice had his trusty pup sitting on a chair beside him during his speech - with many even pointing out the resemblance between Babydog and her owner.

Justice was running for the Senate seat being vacated by former Democrat, and now Independent, Senator Joe Manchin. And early in the evening, it became clear that it would be a runaway win for Justice - but more importantly, for Babydog.

And while Republicans were no doubt excited to pick up another seat in the Senate, it seems that everybody is more excited about seeing the famous dog wandering the halls of Congress:

Babydog has been visible in West Virginia politics since 2019, when Justice was gifted the dog by his children. The governor revealed that she got her name when Justice would ask "where that baby dog" went, and the name stuck.
She even has a waterfall named after her, Babydog Falls, at Babcock State Park in West Virginia.
But Babydog has also been the source of controversy, after a mural was unveiled in the West Virginia state capitol and it was quickly noticed that the dog had been painted into the scene. Questions arose from some in the (leftwing) media over whether state funds were used to paint Babydog into the mural, despite the fact that she wasn't featured in the version of the painting that had been approved, because obviously West Virginia doesn't have any bigger problems than a dog painted in the mural.
Either way, there's no doubt that Babydog will be a visible figure in Washington as Justice goes from serving as governor to begin his term in the US Senate.
