Six Charged In Florida-Georgia Game Brawl As Jacksonville Sheriff Investigates Punch-Throwing Cops

Florida Georgia cop fight

Catching hands and charges. The annual matchup between the Florida Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs featured plenty of action this past weekend - and not just on the field. Georgia (predictably) ended up getting the 34-20 win over Florida at the game that's held annually at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. But it seems like most of the chaos from the day took place in the stands. Several videos began circulating of a massive brawl during the game. And while it's not clear what led to the chaos, video showed multiple police officers throwing punches at fans as they attempted to control the situation. https://twitter.com/BarstoolTate/status/1852848028769771721 Additional video showed cops eventually tased at least one of the men before cuffing him. https://twitter.com/nickysmokess/status/1852848055940452420 But that apparently wasn't the only incident police officers had with fans on Saturday. In another video, officers can be seen using their handcuffs like brass knuckles to pummel another guy. https://twitter.com/GAFollowers/status/1853104502028505407 Here's another angle:

Not a great look. And now we're getting more information about what went down. According to a fan who was nearby and captured video of the wild brawl, it started when security asked two of the men behind him to leave. After they refused twice, security returned a third time with police officers, and that's when all hell broke loose with police using their tasers and punching the guys to take them into custody. And as for the officer seen punching the fan with his handcuffs, according to a witness, that incident reportedly started when officers tried to verify a fan's tickets: “If you look at my video, they made contact with this man and when he said, 'I'm not leaving my seats, I paid for them' they immediately pulled a taser on him instead of asking to see his tickets. He tried to show the tickets to the police officers. His wife tried to show the tickets to the police officer. The police officer told her to move she'd get tased too.” Well apparently several fans ended up facing charges from the various incidents. News4Jax reports that six fans were charged with offenses ranging from battery, resisting an officer with violence and disorderly conduct. Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says they're investigating the conduct of the officers involved: "The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office’s Professional Standards Division is aware of the videos circulating from the Georgia-Florida football game. Administrative reviews of the incidents are being opened. As such, the agency will not comment until all facts are known and the reviews have been completed." https://twitter.com/JSOPIO/status/1852890626179621362 Can always count on the SEC to provide some wild entertainment.
