![Tom Brady Kicks Some Ice In His 1st Time Skating Under Supervision From NHL Legend Tie Domi]()
![Tom Brady]()
Who says it's ever too late in the game of life to pick up a new skill? Not content to merely jump from the winningest NFL career imaginable
to the broadcast booth for the next Super Bowl, Tom Brady is broadening his athletic horizons at 47 years old.
With the aid of one of my childhood heroes, Tie Domi, Brady hit the ice and did a commendable job for his first time on skates. Domi shared all of this on his Instagram story

Now having a look at Domi's IG, Brady is liking and commenting on almost all of his posts. Hadn't the slightest clue they knew each other or were good pals. Love that Tie got TB12 to lace those blades up and give it a whirl.
I gotta say though, having spent some formative years of my youth growing up in Canada, I did
not have the aid of this
Skate Helper thing when I was learning to keep my balance in the rink. I legit didn't know what Brady was holding to keep him from falling over. Was about to make some "damn, he's getting old!" jokes and liken the Skate Helper to the traditional land-locked walker. They look like the same thing just about.
This ingenious piece of equipment launched in 2006, several years
after I'd learned to skate. Rather than clutching at the rock-hard, unforgiving boards/walls of the rink, or wiping out in the middle of the ice, it would've been fantastic to have that Skate Helper at my disposal. Would've led to a lot fewer bruises, although maybe I wouldn't have had the confidence to skate on my own as adeptly with it.
In any event, I'm not going to fault Brady for using every advantage at his disposal to flatten the learning curve. It'd be awesome to have a friend from the NHL to help you out. If Tie Domi didn't think Brady was soft for using the Skate Helper, who am I to criticize?
Fully understanding that Tie Domi isn't a household name to most in America, suffice it to say he was one of the grittiest dudes to ever play hockey. Some brief stints for the Rangers and Jets preceded his time on the Toronto Maple Leafs, where Domi established himself as the NHL's foremost enforcer. Domi set the Leafs' franchise record for penalty minutes, has the third-most PIM in NHL history, and no man has more major fighting penalties than Domi's mark of 333. Maybe
Matt Rempe will give Domi a run for his money, but I doubt it.
When your nickname is "The Albanian Assassin", you just might be the man. Being a goon means being beloved by your team and fans but reviled by most others. Some spectator even tried to fight Domi during one of his many trips to the penalty box.

Domi carved out an amazing legacy as a player, his son Max is in his 10th NHL season, and he's apparently good pals with Tom Brady. Not bad!
I'm actually surprised Brady never learned to skate given how many years he spent with the Patriots. Maybe he didn't want to risk any sort of freak injury in the offseason that could put his football career in highly avoidable jeopardy. Regardless, ice skating rocks. I'm still a little bitter about not having a Skate Helper as a kid.
