Should probably know better than that by now...
Every year it seems like some young people end up getting themselves in hot water with their choice of Halloween costumes - and we've already found the first one this year.
Obviously one of the big stories from the past few months has been the arrest of rapper and record producer Diddy (also known as Puff Daddy, and P. Diddy, but his real name is Sean Combs) on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. The indictment accuses the rapper of hosting drug and sex-fueled parties he called "freak offs" filled with prostitutes and...well, whatever else you do at a freak off.
After being arrested on September 16, Diddy pled not guilty, but the court has rejected his requests for bail and kept him behind bars as he awaits trial.
But one of the details that caught everybody's attention was what was found when authorities raided Diddy's homes in Los Angeles and Miami.
According to affidavits, the rapper had 1,000 bottles of lube and baby oil in his home - which his lawyer tried to explain away by claiming that Diddy simply bought in bulk from Costco:
“I mean, he has a big house. He buys in bulk. I think they have Costcos in every place where he has a home. Have you sat in a parking lot of a Costco and seen what people walk out of there with?”
Well Costco quickly cleared their good name by
responding that they don't even sell baby oil.
Guess they're going to need a different defense there.
But anyway, the story of Diddy and his baby oil quickly became a viral meme and the subject of jokes all over the internet. And apparently one pair of college students decided to turn the joke into a Halloween costume - which might not have been a bad idea if the guy hadn't decided to wear blackface.

Well the internet quickly jumped all over the couple after a picture of the costume was posted on TikTok, and it was discovered that the two are apparently students at San Diego State University. (It's not clear if the girl in the photo was the one who posted it, or if the original photo was simply uploaded by a friend).
Either way, the original video has since been deleted (and it appears her entire profile is gone too), but plenty of people have reposted it and criticized the couple, even calling for them to be expelled from the university.
Of course there are also people who are saying that everybody's overreacting, and making a big deal out of a harmless joke. But whether you agree with it or not, it seems pretty universally agreed that you can't wear blackface. Just don't do it, whether you think it's no big deal or not.
And as others pointed out, all of this could have been avoided if he'd just bought a cheap Diddy mask instead of going full blackface...
