![Former NFL QB Jay Cutler Arrested On DUI, Gun Possession Charges Near Nashville, Tennessee]()

Decision-making wasn't Jay Cutler's strong suit on the field, and apparently that extends outside the lines.
Probably a bit of a cheap shot there, but Cutler won't soon be mistaken for some sensitive soul who
cares about the feelings of others outside of his immediate life orbit. That was on full display when he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and gun possession charges in Franklin, Tennessee, on Thursday night.
TMZ reports that Cutler posted bond at $5,000, and that he was hit with additional charges: failure to exercise due care, and violating implied consent law.

The year is 2024. I know the 41-year-old Cutler's football heyday was a while ago, but doesn't he know about the advent of Uber and other ride sharing services? For a man who went to a stellar academic school in Vanderbilt and
made over $127 million in career NFL earnings, you'd think that blend of innate smarts and financial security would set Cutler up to tap those smartphone buttons for the Uber/taxi/whatever instead of driving while intoxicated.
It's always a relief when these stories don't end in tragedy. Who knows what Cutler is going through personally to get to this point. Navigating a post-playing career is a difficult thing for any athlete, so I can empathize with that to a certain degree. His divorce from Kristin Cavallari was also quite the public spectacle. That said, it doesn't excuse the actions here, and Cutler will likely face the consequences in spite of his apparent refusal of a breathalyzer test.
Cutler retired at 34 years old, having begun his career in Denver as a first-round pick and hopeful franchise quarterback for the Broncos. After only three seasons there, Cutler was traded to the Chicago Bears, and considering their lack of history developing high-end QBs, he was something of a success, leading them to an NFC Championship Game in 2010.
We'll see if any more context or details emerge from this arrest, but just a bummer all around to see anyone put others in danger by getting behind the wheel when they shouldn't.
