Alex Bowman Knocked Out Of NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs After Failing Post-Race Inspection At The Charlotte Roval

Alex Bowman

Brutal way to get knocked out of the playoffs. Alex Bowman finished 18th during the Bank of America Roval 400 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway road course today, enough to lock himself into the next round of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs as the field was cut to just 8 drivers. Or so he thought. NASCAR just announced that Bowman's #48 car has failed post-race inspection, causing him to be disqualified from the race and credited with a 38th place finish. But even bigger than losing his finishing position, the loss of points drops Bowman out of the playoffs - and puts Joey Logano in. Logano was locked in a tight battle for the final spot in the playoffs in the closing laps of today's race. But ultimately, Tyler Reddick in the #45 car for 23XI Racing ended up tearing through the field and making up enough points to pass Joey and lock himself into the round of 8. But now, Reddick and Logano will both be continuing their quest for a championship. According to NASCAR, the #48 car failed to meet the minimum weight requirement in the post-race inspection, resulting in the disqualification. Of course, there's no doubt that Hendrick Motorsports will appeal the penalty, especially after it looked like the team would have all four of their cars in the round of 8. As of right now though, it looks like Logano will be racing for his third championship and Bowman will have to wait another year to try for his first. https://twitter.com/NASCAR/status/1845620881860501768
