HBO Unveils New “It’s Florida, Man” Series, Which Will Spotlight Wild, Real Life “Florida Man” Stories

Jake Johnson Florida Man

How did it take this long for someone to make a TV show based upon the wildest creature on the planet: The Florida Man? For years (maybe even centuries?), the Florida Man has been wreaking havoc, doing crazy things, and generating absurd headlines. To be clear, it's not just one man that is known as the Florida Man. It's instead more of an idea, or a culture if you will, that select, deranged Floridians possess. In case you aren't following, allow me to direct you to some examples that we've covered here at Whiskey Riff of "Sunshine State" residents doing things that only seem to happen in the state that's become known as America's appendage: -Florida Man Jumping Out of the Water To Scare A Resting Alligator -Florida Man Arrested For Shooting Down Walmart Delivery Drone -Florida Man Uses Python To Play Tug-Of-War With Crocodile -Florida Man Plans To Ride Out Category 5 Hurricane In 20-Foot Sailboat And let me tell you, that's really just scratching the surface of Florida Man stories. They are a dime a dozen, and it's about time one of the big time TV executives said, "Let's make a show out of it." HBO just announced a new original series titled "It's Florida, Man," which sets out to cover and tell fictionalized-yet-true stories about the Florida man. If you've ever seen the show Drunk History, it seems as though it will be a lot like that. Each episode will cover one of the iconic and crazy Florida stories, and it will feature interviews with people that were actually involved. They'll also include recreated scenes, and there are a number of talented actors and actresses (Anna Faris, Randall Park, Jake Johnson, Jon Gries, Bobby Lee, Sam Richardson and Ego Nwodim to name a few) attached to the project. The official synopsis describes the show as: "An irreverent late-night series bringing to life unbelievable tales from Florida, featuring interviews with locals and comedic reenactments starring a rotating cast of actors and comedians, covering diverse topics with humor and heart." And here's the first trailer for the show that will premiere on Max later this month. Looks like must watch Florida-inspired TV to me: https://twitter.com/HBO/status/1843671151379173756
