Who would've thought Cal Berkeley could be such an electric atmosphere for ESPN's
College GameDay? Not me!
Pat McAfee's generous Hurricane Helene donation and a six-figure kick for a Cal student made for quite the Saturday pregame show on its own. However, the grand finale was when ex-Golden Bears running back and NFL legend Marshawn Lynch made his cameo as the celebrity guest picker.
The lasting image of Lynch's college career — and maybe his life despite his gridiron greatness, let's be honest — is him joy riding in a golf cart on the field. Welp, the Skittles-chomping, media-loathing football artiste known as "Beast Mode" fired up his exotic transport again on Saturday as Jess Sims rode shotgun, more or less fearing for her life.

On the off chance you read this sentence before you watch the above video, would it surprise you to know that Marshawn doesn't have a license to drive that whip? "Hell naw" was his answer. Least surprising news ever, isn't it?
Nevertheless, big ups to Sims for broaching the topic, albeit at the end of Marshawn weaving dangerously close to the barriers keeping the enthusiastic students out of harm's way.
Eventually, Marshawn made his way to the desk with the rest of the
GameDay crew. Kirk Herbstreit thought it'd be a good idea to fade the rest of the panel by picking Cal's arch-rival Stanford to beat Virginia Tech. This did not sit well with Marshawn, who got up and proceeded to put Herbie in a headlock/chokehold. Yes this actually happened.

Marshawn even smoked a little behind the scenes. Can't speculate on what it was, but McAfee did say earlier on that a curious odor was permeating the air.

Based on what Marshawn was saying leading up to this appearance, I think we can confidently say that he is running on zero sleep and did indeed come straight to the set from a night out.

Good for him. Of course, by the end, Marshawn got the fans going by picking Cal to knock off 10th-ranked Miami on Saturday night. The Canes are 10-point favorites and have a sensational quarterback in Cam Ward who's flying up NFL Draft boards. The good news for the Golden Bears is they're tied for the national lead with 10 interceptions as a team. If they can pick Ward off a time or two, they should have a chance to pull the upset.
Regardless of what happens in the game, what a shot in the arm for the program just by hosting
College GameDay. One of the craziest atmospheres I've seen on that show in a minute.
PS: Nick Saban did Marshawn dirty with this Super Bowl 1-yard line reference.
