Brock Purdy Claimed To Have A Faster 10-Yard Split Than Christian McCaffery & Deebo Samuel… The Fact Check Says Otherwise

The San Francisco 49ers rolled to an easy 30-13 win over the struggling New England Patriots yesterday to move to 2-2 on the season but it was a comment from star quarterback Brock Purdy that had people up in arms coming out of the weekend. Purdy, the Iowa State star who's gone from Mr. Irrelevant to one of the best QBs in the league in just a few seasons, lit the media on fire when he claimed to have a faster 10-yard split than his teammates and all-world athletes Christian McCaffery and Deebo Samuel. "I think my 10-yard split, just to give you guys some perspective, was faster than Christian (McCaffery)'s and Deebo (Samuel)'s. I think. You guys can fact check me... I think I just have enough to get out of the pocket and make a play, pick up five, seven yards here or there... I'm not Lamar Jackson by any means but, anyways, just do what it takes." https://twitter.com/957thegame/status/1840565886715064791 Obviously, this raised more than a few eyebrows, considering Purdy isn't even known as an all that mobile quarterback, but on first glance, the internet showed me this video from the 49ers local radio station that seems to prove he was correct... https://twitter.com/KNBR/status/1840768791074263477 But that turned out to be a bit of old fashioned misinformation because when you actually look up their combine splits, Purdy wound up exactly where you'd imagine; behind Deebo and McCaffery. According to NFLcombineresults.com, Deebo Samuel had an official 10-yard split of 1.6 seconds, McCaffery had 1.55 seconds, and Brock Purdy had 1.61, which does put him right in contention with the other two, but not faster than them. We should admit that Brock's split being just one hundredth of a second slower than Deebo Samuel is beyond impressive and if you just take the unofficial results that showed on the original broadcast of one of Deebo and McCaffery's attempts than sure, Brock beat them but we've got to go to the official numbers to find the truth.
