“The Dancing Was ONE. STRIPPER.” – Detroit “Bridgerton Ball” Event Turns Out To Be A Total Scam

Bridgerton Ball Detroit

This is giving the Willy Wonka Experience in Scotland but somehow maybe worse due to the price tag... I haven't watched it but apparently people are obsessed with Netflix's Bridgerton, a show set in the Regency era in England that follows the Bridgerton family as they live a high class lifestyle and try to find love. Because of its popularity, a company in Detroit tried to set up a Bridgerton-themed ball for fans to dress up in their best outfits and live out their romanticized idea of what live in the early 1800's was like. But there was a slight problem... Okay, it was more than a slight problem, it was a downright disaster from the jump. For starters, the event was first scheduled to take place back on August 25th but was cancelled just a few days before because of a venue issue. It was moved to the historic Harmonie club last night, but when people showed up in their ballgowns it quickly became clear that the night was not going to be anything like what was promised. What should have been elegance and mystique was pretty much nothing, but what they did provide was absolutely insane... Ticket prices ranged from $150 to $1,000 to attend and Amanda Sue Mathis told WXYZ what the event was supposed to include: "The way that it was described was this was going to be a Bridgerton evening. We were gonna have classical music, good dinner. There was gonna be a play and they were gonna pick Diamond of the season. They were gonna give away all of these prizes and we went in and it was completely empty in there." She went on to describe all the things her and her friends did to make the most out of what was supposed to be a special night, each thing driving up the dollars that turned out to be wasted on empty promises: "I mean all of these dresses that you see on these beautiful women, we've all been getting them tailored to fit us. So we spent extra money on costumes, all of this beautiful beading, getting our hair done, our nails done for this to be the way that it is. It's heartbreaking. We were supposed to have this last month. They canceled it and we were like okay. We waited, they rescheduled it to today. We got a limo for this, did all these things, and, basically, got an empty building." Yikes... A thread on X gives us a behind the scenes look on what this Bridgerton Ball looked like and let me tell you, whatever you're imagining, it's way worse... Rachel Eaton first called out the company behind the ball so people can avoid their events in the future (it's called Uncle & Me LLC) before providing the reason why the event was first rescheduled (according to a worker at the first venue) and photos from the local news station of well-dressed people standing outside on a rainy sidewalk waiting to be let inside the crowded first floor. "They originally tried having it at my job and we had to cancel it because they wouldn't pay the the remaining money to rent the venue" https://twitter.com/rayleearts/status/1838588251168178466 Next, we got to see some of the live music (a single violin player!) and the cheap decor that was "Party City/Dollar General level". Apparently they didn't even pay the photographer and pictures had to be airdropped if you wanted them (tough luck Android users). https://twitter.com/rayleearts/status/1838588270449496564 If you think that's bad just wait and see where we end up... There was barely any food (it was gone within an hour) but some of the food provided was undercooked/raw and served by workers in football jerseys (not really sticking with the theme there). There were also no one to pick up plates after dinner, so food remnants were left sitting on tables. Here's where it really takes a turn. The "regal" or "royal" entertainment that was promised turned out to be a lone stripper... Yes, they paid some poor woman to dance by herself to a lone violin player while people dolled up in gowns sat on the floor, dejected and feeling ripped off. https://twitter.com/rayleearts/status/1838588300178620810 There was also supposed to be prizes and giveaways for the best dressed and a chance to win the 'Diamond of the Season' award, which never materialized. The Guardian reports that there was a "Queen" in attendance for people to take pictures with but she spent the entire time passing out business cards and telling people to follow her on social media. If you wanted to take a photo on a "throne" (or at least something that slightly resembles a throne) it was an extra $40 charge. All in all, it looks to be a case of overpromising and underdelivering. Safe to say this event company is probably going to close up show after this viral wave displaying perhaps them at their worst, but such is the internet these days, especially when you are trying to curate an experience designed to be put online. https://twitter.com/rayleearts/status/1838588221006967112?t=7p3243tu0EdVbh1TYQeAuQ&s=19
