The Horned Frogs of TCU aren't too happy about playing on the CW Network.
They are set to matchup against the SMU Mustangs this weekend, who joined the ACC (Atlantic Coastal Conference) this past offseason after leaving the AAC (American Athletic Conference). One of the perks - or downsides, depending on how you look at it - of joining the ACC is that SMU will play select games that air on the CW Network.
Yes,
that CW Network.
Back in 2023, the ACC announced a new, confusing partnership with The CW Network, which gives the small national broadcast network the rights to 50 college football and basketball games each year through the 2026-2027 season. As someone who has watched a sporting event on the CW, there's nothing necessarily wrong with it, but it's just a little weird.
Some people probably have vague memories of tuning in to the CW to watch
Smallville,
Gossip Girl or
One Tree Hill on the network back in the day. More recently, the CW has launched shows that somehow gain followings - like
The Flash or
Riverdale - and they apparently liked the idea of adding live sports to their lineup.
Though the network liked the idea, sports fans haven't been all that crazy about it. That not-so-happy grouping of people also apparently includes the entire TCU football team, since they put together this masterpiece calling out SMU and the ACC for making their fans tune into the CW to watch Saturday's game.
You'll notice that they do the short video in the stylings of ESPN's classic "This Is Sportscenter" skits, only for them at the end to bring up the fact that game isn't on ESPN. They also add in a little detail that longtime CW fans might notice, using
Dawson's Creek's theme song at the end of video.
