Of course the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan in 2021 has become a major issue in the 2024 presidential election, after 13 troops were killed in a suicide bombing (and it doesn't seem like anybody was ever held accountable for it). Naturally the Biden administration's handling of the withdrawal has been heavily criticized by former President Donald Trump, and was discussed during this past week's presidential debate as Trump faced off with Vice President Kamala Harris. Speaking about the withdrawal, Harris defended her administration's decision to go forward with the plan to withdraw from Afghanistan (which wasn't the question, I don't think anybody disagrees that we should have gotten out of there, the problem was how it was done). But anyway, during her answer, Harris also made the claim that not only do we no longer have troops in Afghanistan, but we no longer have active duty military members in any combat zone around the world: "I agree with President Biden's decision to pull out of Afghanistan. Four presidents said they would and Joe Biden did. And as a result, America's taxpayers are not paying the $300 million a day we were paying for that endless war. And as of today, there is not one member of the United States military who is in active duty in a combat zone, in any war zone around the world. The first time this century." Well that came as a surprise to...some active duty military stationed in a war zone. In a hilarious video, some troops were gathered around a TV in their tent watching the answer from Harris. And when she said we didn't have any military in combat zones, the camera turned around to show troops and their reaction: "Wait what? So where the fuck are we right now?"
