Not to say Ohio State is regretting its decision to go with Will Howard at quarterback this year over Syracuse's Kyle McCord. Way too early for that. However, holy hell, what a start McCord is off to for the Orange.
It's a cool story, too, because McCord is from New Jersey and went to high school in Philadelphia, so not terribly far from Syracuse. Even cooler? The closer proximity to home seems to have McCord tapping back into his swagger after the weight of crushing expectations in Columbus proved a little too much for him to want to stick around.
Look at McCord, in the middle of an afternoon where he threw for 381 yards and four TDs in an upset over 23rd-ranked Georgia Tech, screaming to his teammates on the sidelines about how pathetic the Yellow Jackets are.

Talk about backing it up on the field! I didn't know Kyle McCord had this kind of dawg in him. To be fair, he sat for years at Ohio State before he finally got his shot. Threw 24 TDs to only six picks. Just couldn't beat Michigan, and everyone wanted him gone. I feel like Buckeyes coach Ryan Day's schematic imagination leaves something to be desired, but hey, based on how cheeks Michigan looked against Texas today, he might actually beat the Wolverines this year at long last.

In a weird way, McCord coming out of the gates so hot puts more pressure on Howard and Ohio State. Let's just hope some Buckeyes fans don't try to claim K-Mac
like they did with Joe Burrow. Different circumstances, but still, it'd be odd to gas up your ex-QB when you couldn't kick him out of town fast enough. That'd be more like

McCord balling out at Syracuse of all places was the subplot to the college football season I never knew was coming and didn't know I needed.
Syracuse's coach was already coming out last week saying he should send Ryan Day some champagne for letting McCord come his way.
