Tyler Reddick Says He’s “Throwing Up & Sh**ting Himself” In The Car As He Battles Illness During Southern 500 At Darlington

Gonna have Darlington stripes in his underwear after the race. Tyler Reddick is battling for the NASCAR Cup Series regular season championship today, coming into the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway with a 17 point lead on Kyle Larson in the final race before the playoffs begin. But that's not all the driver of the #45 car for 23XI Racing is battling. During the first stage of the race, Reddick told his team that he was having stomach issues and asked for some Tums, as well as some crackers or bread to try to settle his stomach. And it's bad enough to be stuck in the car for four hours when you're not feeling well. But when his team asked how he was doing, Reddick revealed just how bad he's struggling: "Yeah I'm throwing up, shitting myself, all of it." https://twitter.com/NASCARonNBC/status/1830386657981243657 Yikes. And to make matters worse, when his team passed Reddick some medicine on a pit stop to try to settle his stomach, the driver told them that the pills were too small and he ended up dropping them. Obviously Reddick doesn't want to have to get out of the car and be replaced by a relief driver with so much on the line. And I'm sure a relief driver doesn't want to get in the car after the mess that it sounds like Reddick's made in there... Ironically, the #45 team is running a paint scheme honoring 23XI Racing team owner Michael Jordan, who famously led the Chicago Bulls to a win over the Utah Jazz in the "Flu Game," game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals while battling stomach issues of his own (which Jordan later blamed on pizza he ate the night before). If Reddick ends up winning the race or the regular season championship, this could end up being his own "Flu Game." But I don't envy his car guy who's going to have to clean up the mess he left behind.
