Bubba Wallace

Never read the comments. That's pretty much the first rule of social media. There are always going to be people who have something negative to say, so just don't read it. You'll be better off for it. Bubba Wallace is obviously one of the most polarizing drivers in NASCAR, and has no doubt seen more than his fair share of hate from social media trolls. But now, he's not seeing any of it - because he's no longer on social media. The driver of the #23 car for 23XI Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series decided last month to step away from social media. And this past weekend, he spoke to Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports about how much better it's been for his mental health: “Oh, it’s been so nice. Yeah it’s been so nice. Just being caught up in other people’s lives and you just start comparing. Aside from the toxic comments, social media is just a lot at times. I do miss like the photography side of it, you know, posting all that stuff. But it’s just way better for the mentals. YouTube is my best friend.” Of course it's easy to get on social media and see others doing well and start feeling like you're doing something wrong yourself. It's easy to forget that social media isn't real life, and that everybody presents the best version of themselves on their social media while trying to hide anything negative. So not having to see that and compare your own life to what others put on social media is no doubt a big help. And Bubba's obviously feeling the pressure at work too. He's currently sitting outside of the playoffs with one race remaining, and goes into Darlington this weekend in an almost-must win scenario. This past weekend, Bubba shouldered the blame for the position the team's in, admitting that it's "unacceptable" that he hasn't been able to win a race yet this season: “Got one car fighting for a regular season championship and another on the bubble. It’s unacceptable. I’ll take all that weight on my shoulders. I should’ve won multiple times, and I haven’t. We don’t even deserve to be here, and we aren’t. Gotta go win. That’s it.” If Bubba doesn't manage to make the playoffs, he's probably going to want to extend his social media vacation for a while. And even if he does, you know there are going to be plenty of people pissed off about that too...so either way, maybe a good idea just to keep those apps off his phone. https://twitter.com/bobpockrass/status/1827096502751391918
